arabian horses
LAUREN. asked:

If a horse (or pony) is half Arabian and half something else which bone structure does he/she have? Will it have the 17 ribs, 5 lumbar vertebrae, and 16 tail vertebrae like an Arabian; or the 18 ribs, 6 lumbar vertebrae, and 18 tail vertebrae bone configuration? Please include a source with your answer.

it depends which traits are dominant and recessive. if one of the parents has all dominant traits, then the horse will probably have those traits…..but if one of the parents has both dominant and recessive traits, then there is a 50% chance that the offspring will carry and show recessive traits….. …it’s hard to say without knowing the mother and father and their traits……

it depends. it could be a mix of half and half, or part- part, or leaning mostly toward normal or mostly leaning towards. it all depends on which parent has the recessive and dominant traits. it will be most likely that the horse has a smaller frame, but not as petite as an arab.

It depends on what it is crossed with. You could put the genes in a punnet square, but that only works if you have all the correct information.

I know someone who has an Quarter/Arab mix, and she has confirmation like both breeds. Funny huh? She has 17 ribs, 5 lumbar, and 18 tail vertebrae. Shes right in the middle.

You wont know for sure unless you fell the horse and count!
