All I am hearing these days is negative comments about Arabs, Why is this? I have owned Arabian horses all my life and they are the best breed I have ever owned, Almost human like! What are your opinions?

I think every breed has their reputations. However, with arabs, it tends to be where you are in the country. The west coast they dont seem to be as popular as on the east coast.
Look at appys, most people say they are stubborn, etc. Bad reps.
Quarters have their “small feet” or “hot cow lines” etc
Pony are known as sh… heads.. and a pain in the butt…
TBs are flighty, etc
They all have their reputations.
Arabs are a special breed. They are one of the few breeds that I think have stayed true to their lines and not allowed blood to mix in. In that they havent changed over the years. Arabs are endurance horses, they have stamina. I do believe it takes a special person to have and handle an arab properly. They have a lot of energy and a lot of athleticism. They are alert and know their surroundings.
However, that is a generalization from what I am familiar with.
Arabs can be “a lot of horse”… and for that they are known. Can be very versatile.
Just a personal opinion, but I find them to be ridiculously overly excitable and hot blooded. I have met many arabs and never met a single solid-minded arab.
I haven’t heard that, but it may be because Arabs are to popular or those persons have had trouble with Arabs. Everyone has their own opinion. ![]()
It’s just ppl. I think arabs are DROP DEAD BEAUTIFUL! BUT I do barrels and roping and I find that they are scared of a lot of things, not all of them are, but they are not good for what I do. Most ppl just say that they suck and are stupid only because they cannot use them for what they do or just don;t care for the breed. But there is nothing wrong with them. Just like I cannot STAND appys!!! I DO NOT like them at all, BUT that does not make them a bad horse! Everyone just has their opinions. Hope this helped.
they have buil up a rep but then again EVERY horse breed has some negative comments going around about it cause one horse slips up and then the owner tells their friends and they tell their friends next thing you know
They are absolutly beautiful and exotic. I wish I could have a horse I live in the city
I have also heard alot of discriminating against arabians. I think it’s because almost every horse breed is descendents of the arabian. They created other breeds to make them bigger and better built than the arabians. I own a half-arabian, and I find that arabs are alot smoother and more enjoyable to ride. In my opinion, they are alot more beautiful and graceful too.
Like mentioned above, every breed has its reputation. Sometimes it’s justified, sometimes it’s not. I think that a well-bred (and I don’t mean expensive; I just mean that it came out of not-crazy parents), well-raised horse of any breed is going to be a good horse. The Arabs I’ve known have been flighty and stupid. I’m sure if they had been shown the ropes properly when they were younger, and had been given a good outlet for their energy, they would have turned out better.
Alot of people do not like the ‘hot’ temper of the Arabs… I know the one my mother had was ‘nutty’ but was also the best damn companion a little girl could ask for. The horse came and you couldn’t approach her or you would get hurt, but after bonding the horse let me as a 6-7 year old lay on her back out in the field.
Of course any breed can get that sort of negitive comments, Quarter horses for example ive heard are extreemly bouncy and many don’t like that. I had two that were bouncy and I don’t see the big deal. But each to his own.
some people that i know that put down arabs i believe they the horses are smarter then the people.
I don’t know, they are very nice horses. Some people don’t like “hot” horses. Some people find them to feminine looking. I don’t much care for the look of a show Arab myself, ugly little noses on them. They have great personalities and wonderful temperments,, from the ones I have met.
I will tell you why, and I can draw on experience as my reference. I used to train outside horse (horses other than our own) for many years, I had so much to say about Appys and Arabs…you have probably heard it all, and I said it all. Now, comes the revelation about Arabs. I worked for a company in Dallas that put you on a different team each night, you never really knew what you would be driving in downtown Dallas to give historic tours.. I was given a pair of Arabian Geldings to drive…indefinitely and they taught me much more than I did them….first of all, they have a heart as big or bigger than Texas, they don’t know what quit is, and they have ethical issues with those, would be horseman, that think that they can bully and muscle any horse into doing what they want them to. An Arabian won’t quit you, they don’t even know what that means…all they need, (I say this rather tongue in cheek, some just plain honesty) is to be shown what you want and to ask please when you ask them to do it. On the other hand, try to muscle them and they don’t know what quit is either, they will fight you until one of you either quits or dies. That pair taught me invaluable lessons on how to drive those of different breeds, yes….they are different and you do have to speak a different language to communicate with them. They are intelligent, they have their pride, and will go down fighting if you don’t try to communicate with them. On the other hand, they will go to the mat with you if they trust you…..to get them to do that, you must trust them. Lastly, I consider myself fortunate to have driven this pair several years, they taught me a lot.
I’m a purebred Arabian owner, my little guy is Am Shadow Basko aka Joker. I have owned other Arabs and i have never had a problem and a lot of people here own them to, nor have i heard anything bad them…Guess they are popular here. Everyone likes what breeds they like, nothing you can do to change their minds.
Well, for the most part, I hardly ever hear anything bad about arabians. Like, EVER! But when I do, it;s with people that have ridden very high strung arabians and had a bad experience with them. They are smarter than most horses and figure peple out easily. People do not like being outsmarted and often see the stubborness that comes if you don;t follow through with an arab.
I think the people that are saying this:
A. Don’t like highstrung/smart horses
B. Never had a relationship with one
C. Are too into steryo types
People are just jeolous. Lol
Reputation or bad experience.
Some people I know have never been around or ridden and Arabian but they don’t like them anyway. Others have ridden or owned them and had a bad experience with them, probably because they didn’t know what they were doing.
I personally don’t care for them. We had a half-Arab for a long time and she was nutty. We tried every direction with her as far as training, and she was fine to ride and such, but she was afraid of EVERYTHING and reacted like an idiot to everything, not matter how many times she’d seen it before.
I’m sure there are “good” Arabs out there, but for the things I like to do with horses, they just don’t suit me.
I also don’t think they’d make a good first horse for someone, either…mainly for the reason that they do take a special way to ride them and inexperienced people probably wouldn’t know enough to handle it.
I love arabians. I dont own one, but i used to a ride a couple and yes, they are spirited but i still love ‘em.
some people (especially dressage riders) say that arabs are not very graceful and they keep their heads up too high. they say they are not breed for english riding. this is just a typical arab, not all. plus they are not very strong when it comes to jumping 4′6″ +
i personly dont like arabian horses and whould never own one my dad had an arabian that almost killed him and there to spirited
I have no idea. I have an Arabian and, though she’s high-strung, she has definatly been a good horse. I guess every breed has stereotypes made about them (some understandable I suppose).
I love arabians but I do on occasion hear some negative thoughts on them. Lots of people think that arabians are horses bred just for show. They don’t understand the value they are to some people. Many people believe that arabians are high-strung because of bad breeding and mistreatment. I hope this gave you some insight! I agree, it doesn’t make any sense!
I think Arabs are drop dead beautiful in their halter classes..but, that’s where it ends….I don’t care for their movement while watching them move from behind; they remind me of paddle wheelers. I want a horse that can think, stay relaxed and go on about their business. The less hype, fussing around, the better. They’re just not a good match for me.
People seem to discriminate against Arabs becouse they can be very spirited. Stupitidy is the reason i can see. Yes they are spitited and proud, but they love people and would never hurt an owner unless maybe they were being abused. People dont realize how special these horses are, they love kids, make great family horses and can go alot longer than most other horses. Love an Arabian and you have a best friend for life. I use to breed Tennessee walkers and one of the best ones i ever came across was half arabian.
Everyone always has a problem with a breed no matter what. There are some people who shouldn’t own certain types of animals because their too much for them to handle. For example some of the Arabians that I see, they’re out of control, breaking trailer ties, bucking people off.
Now every type of horse can do something like that. Its just that there are some people who shouldn’t own Arabians. Because they’re too much for them. That gives people a bad opinion about Arabians in general.
My personal opinion, I like Arabians. In the future I’d love to buy one. My trainer has her ex-endurance Arab and he’s a blast to ride but i’d love to buy a hunt seat trained arab.
I have always owned Arabs (own 2 now.) My boy friend is one of those that makes comments about Arabs. He prefers QH’s. Most people don’t like that they are “spicy” or that they create a challange when handling them. I think most that make comments just want horses that are completely mellow.
To each his own!

I have yet to hear anything against them. :/
Some people just don’t like their spirited personalities I guess.
